Electric cars will help London reduce carbon output

London Climate Change Consultation

06/01/2011

London mayor Boris Johnson – a known enthusiast for electric cars – is seeking your views on what London needs to do to tackle its alarming CO2 emission levels.  A public consultation was launched last year with a view to seeking a wide range of ideas and opinion on how to engineer low carbon energy usage and supply in the capital.

Green Ambitions

London currently suffers high levels of various environmental pollutants, not least from the mass of traffic and transport routes ans services.  Against this, the mayor has declared the ambitious aim of turning London into the “greenest big city in the world”.

London's draft Climate Change Mitigation & Energy Strategy incorporates a series of measures designed to deliver a reduction in the city’s carbon output totalling 60%, by 2025.

Electric Cars & Charging

Part of the capital’s response to the climate agenda is the previously announced Transport for London (TfL) Electric Vehicles & Infrastructure Strategy, which aims to facilitate public investment of up to £72 million in creating 1,000 electric vehicles and 8,500 electric charging points across greater London.
