New Loan Scheme for Electric Vehicles

10/11/2011

Transport Scotland, together with the Energy Saving Trust (EST), has launched a new Low Carbon Transport Loan to encourage organisations to replace their current vehicles with energy efficient alternatives such as electric vehicles.

The new scheme provides interest free loans from £500 to £50,000 which organisations can use for the installation of measures that make their transport and travel arrangements more sustainable.  The Energy Saving Trust hopes the loans will help to support organisations that want to reduce the carbon impact and fuel costs of their transport.

Ian Murdoch, Energy Saving Trust Scotland Transport Manager, explains: “Taking out a loan to help your organisation become more sustainable is a great way of boosting corporate and social responsibility. As the loan is interest free, with repayments spread over six years, it’s an attractive proposition for any company.”

Allied Electric sales director, Peter Facenna, comments: “These new loans are a great way of encouraging businesses to become more efficient and at the same time save money.  Not only do our electric vehicles emit zero emissions in operation but they are up to seven times cheaper per mile than the equivalent diesel vehicle and you'll pay no road tax.”

Any business based in Scotland will be eligible to apply for a loan provided they have been trading for at least 12 months, have a written travel plan or green fleet review and have the financial capability to repay the loan.  The Energy Saving Trust is keen to encourage applications from every size and type of organisation, from both the private and public sector.

Potential applicants are advised to contact your local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre by calling 0800 512 012.  They will assist you with your application and organise a sustainable transport review to assess your transport needs.
