Allied Electric Scoops Top Green Award

Allied Electric has been recognised for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Scottish Environment' in the prestigious Scottish Green Awards 2010. 

Scotland Goes Green

The awards ceremony, held in the Glasgow Science Centre on Thursday 30th September and hosted by TV presenter Jackie Bird, recognised achievements across Scotland in encouraging sustainability, tackling climate change and improving energy efficiency. 

Awards went to a variety of individuals, voluntary organisations, and businesses of all sizes which were deemed by the judges to have made a real and lasting commitment to improving the environment in Scotland.

Outstanding Contribution

The Outstanding Contribution to the Scottish Environment Award was presented to Allied Electric’s managing director, Paul Nelson, by Frank Mitchell, of award sponsor Scottish Power.  Allied was chosen for this top green award in recognition of the work being done by the Glasgow-based manufacturer to reduce vehicle emissions by bringing a range of fully electric vehicles to market.

"This is a great Scottish company which is a pioneer in creating the new generation of environmentally friendly vehicles,” commented Alasdair Northrop, editor of event organiser Scottish Business Insider. 

“They set a great example to others about what can be achieved in this exciting new area of business."

Paul Nelson commented: “We are delighted with this recognition of the hard work we have put into the research and development of electric vehicles.  We firmly believe that there needs to be a real, viable alternative to the combustion engine and we that we have found this in our range of all electric vans and cars.

“For Scotland to meet its ambitious emission reduction targets we need to see the widespread uptake of electric vehicles and we are proud to be at the forefront of this exciting change.  In addition to the reduction of Scotland’s carbon transport footprint we are delighted to be growing skilled manufacturing in Scotland during these tough economic times.”
