Allied Electric provides a range of electric cars and vans

Fleet Managers Look to Electric Vehicles

10/09/2010

Following last year's debut success, GreenFleet Scotland was back in force for a second year, presenting a wide range of low and zero emission vehicles and seminars at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.

Electric Vehicles on Show

Allied Electric’s Peugeot eBipper, Peugeot eBoxer and Peugeot eExpert Tepee - all fully electric vehicles - were on show on the day.

At the indoor exhibition, visitors had the chance to view Allied’s latest innovation, the all-new Peugeot eBipper. The eBipper provides a nippy 375kg payload and working range of 65 miles. eBipper is available as a car, in addition to the van model on display and this most recent addition to Allied’s electric vehicle range certainly proved a big hit at the show.

Allied Electric’s Corporate Sale Manager Colin McQueen comments: “There was great interest in our electric eBipper.  Lots of fleet buyers are now looking for eco-friendly small vans that suit inner city travel and the fully-electric eBipper is a great solution. It has great manoeuvrability and an excellent loading capacity.”

Electric on Test Drive

Visitors also got the chance to test drive a range of low and zero emission vehicles at the event on the outdoor circuit.

On test drive from Allied were the latest model of Peugeot eBoxer electric van and the Peugeot eExpert Tepee which has already proved very popular as an all-electric people car.

These larger electric vehicles both deliver a 100-mile range with various model options available. The eExpert Tepee people carrier accommodates up to six passengers and a wheelchair passenger conversion is also available. Other models available in the Expert range include the L2 Expert electric panel van and crew cab.  The latest model eBoxer electric van has an improved payload of 895kg. The eBoxer is available in the L2 and L3 panel van models and is also available as an electric minibus.

Allied Electric’s test drive slots were snapped up early.  Dave Speak, Corporate Sales Manager, recalls. “We were fully booked from the start of day.  We had a great response following test drive.

"The majority of visitors had never driven an electric vehicle and were pleasantly surprised with its smooth character.”

Electric Vehicle Seminars

A range of seminars ran alongside the event focusing on the latest fleet issues. Seminar attendees were given presentations on major green issues by key speakers including John Curtis, Head of Low Carbon Vehicles and Fuels, who discussed the Scottish Government strategy for migration to low carbon transport, in which electric vehicles are expected to play a major role.

Another key speaker, One North East’s Dr Colin Herron, discussed the blueprint for electric vehicle infrastructure. Plugged-In Places, the government scheme to roll out electric vehicle charging points around the UK, proved a key topic of interest for many visitors.
