Niche-vehicle manufacturer Allied Electric supported GreenFleet’s first ever Scottish arrive and drive event at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.
Organised in conjunction with the Energy Savings Trust Scotland and funded by the Scottish Government, the event saw fleet managers from across the country gather together to find out more about practical transport solutions, which aim to cut carbon emissions.
Green Fleet Scotland featured a number of exhibitors, displaying a range of low and zero emission vehicles, which are helping to reduce carbon output from road transport. On show at Allied Electric’s stand was the Peugeot eExpert van and eExpert Tepee MPV. Both vehicles are 100% electric and are powered by innovative, lithium-ion battery technology, meaning no carbon, particulate or other pollutants are expelled when the vehicles are used.
Opening the event was Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, who said: "Low carbon vehicles provide an opportunity for businesses and other organisations in Scotland to embrace the latest technologies that will help them reduce their vehicle emissions and so help Scotland towards its target, as well as save money."
Colin McQueen, Corporate Sales Manager with Allied Electric, attended the much-awaited event and said: “It’s fantastic that GreenFleet have decided to host an event in Scotland, as we are fast becoming one of the greenest countries in Europe. I was rushed off my feet during the event, dealing with enquiries from fleet managers about our electric vehicle range. It’s important that organisations are recognising that a greener fleet really can have a positive impact in reducing carbon emissions and that Allied Electric have the vehicles to make this possible.”
The GreenFleet Scotland event was successful in showcasing a range of green vehicles and technology, the extent of which has never been seen previously in Scotland. This year’s event coincided with the release of new figures which show a 19 per cent reduction in Scotland's greenhouse gas emission rates over the past 19 years.
Mike Thornton, Director, Energy Saving Trust Scotland, said: "We believe that this event is the first of its kind in Scotland. Around 18 per cent of all carbon emissions come from road transport and this event was a great showcase for easy ways to save money and carbon.”
